Nanaimo, BC – General Manager and Head Coach Lee Stone has announced that the Nanaimo Buccaneers have signed 2006-born forward Damien Fraser for the 2023/24 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League season.
‘I first saw Damien at the CSSHL Playoffs in Penticton and he stood out to me as a talented, young prospect with a ton of potential,” Stone commented on his first sighting of Fraser.
He continued,
“After getting an even closer look at Damien at our most recent ID Camp, I knew he was the exact type of player we are looking to build our program around. Any time we can bring local talent home, we want to do it. We are thrilled that Damien sees us as his best development option as he strives towards playing Junior A.”
Fraser played 26 games with the PCHA U17 Prep program last season totalling 4 goals and 9 assists for 13 points. Fraser added a goal in 3 playoff games in Penticton scoring against Prairie Hockey Academy on day one of the tournament.
“1 think the Buccaneers are a great team to play for to develop my game and help me move on to the next level. Signing with my home town team is pretty exciting and having all my friends and family in town to come out and watch me play will be incredible,” Fraser said after signing with the Bucs. ” think as a player I am a very coachable person on and off the ice and I really focus on the small things and details of my gameplay; I believe that adds up to me being the best I can be and just getting better overall as a player and person. The Bucs are a great fit to help me accomplish my goals to hopefully AP with a Jr A team and play in the BCHL the following season,” he concluded.
The Nanaimo, BC native will attend the Cowichan Valley Capitals and Salmon Arm Silverbacks camps before skating with the Bucs at our Black and Yellow Showcase Event from July 14-16 at the Pirate Ship. Please welcome Damien to the Bucs family!
