The Buccaneers held the hockey clubs main camp this past weekend (August 17th-19th) at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. The first half the players were greeted with a fitness test by Prime Sport & Kinesiology, a second more old school fitness test at the Serauxman stadium put on the by the coaching staff, as well as two practices. The players then got to have their fun in two intra squad games Saturday Night and Sunday morning. The coaching staff was pleased with the fitness level of many players and spots are still up for grabs over the next two weeks. The team will practice 6 times and play 3 exhibition games before the September long weekend when the coaching staff hopes to have a final roster finalized.

A few of the Buccaneers are off to Junior A main camps around the BCHL which provides the players left with the team a great opportunity to show their stuff in practices and games. Fourth year veteran Billy Walters jetted down from 100 mile house where he was fighting forest fires for the province and has made his way back up North until September 1st, after that he will be back full time with our team. This years Buccaneers team promises to be younger then last years. The teams new ownership and coaching staff and I’m sure players are excited to get things going and hope to see many fans out to our first home exhibition game Saturday August 25th against the Oceanside Generals. Aug 24th the Buccaneers will be a short 25 minute drive up the road in Parksville.
