Nanaimo, BC – Nanaimo Buccaneers General Manager and Head Coach Lee Stone has announced the signing of 2005-born forward Laszlo Istvanffy for the 2023/24 Vancouver Island Junior Hockey league season.
“I have seen Laszlo play for over two seasons now dating back to last year watching him at the Coquitlam Express ID Camp,’” Stone commented on his first sighting of Istvanffy.’” If you look up power forward in the Hockey dictionary, Laszlo’s game is the definition you’d find. He is a straight line player that is hard to play against, initiates contact and is very powerful below the hash marks. He has both the 1Q and shooting ability to bring an offensive dynamic to his game at the VIJHL level.” Stone continued.
Istvanffy played 33 games last season with the Vancouver NW Hawks U18 AAA Hockey club, totalling 7 goals and 8 assists for 15 points. Me also made his Junior Hockey debut with the Richmond Sockeyes of the PJHL in a game only 30 minutes from his hometown of Gibsons, BC.
“My coach Scott Hewson told me about the opportunity to play for the Buccaneers. He mentioned that they had a strong coach with experience in moving and developing players to the next level. Hearing that from someone like Scott made me very interested in the program,” Istvanffy said after signing with the Bucs. “I definitely like to play physical and use that as a big part of my game, but that being said, I can still score goals and contribute offensively as well. My short term goals are to have a strong season and develop on and off the ice and I am going to do everything in my power to do that. My long term goals are to play Jr A and Collegiate Hockey,*” he stated.
The 6’3″. 2101b forward is currently playing for the Coquitlam Express U18 BCSHL team and will be participating at our Black and Yellow Showcase Event from July 14-16 at the Pirate Ship. Please welcome Laszlo to the Bucs family!
