The Nanaimo Buccaneers showed serious fight Monday night, rallying late but ultimately falling 3-2 in overtime at Frank Crane Arena.
After trailing 2-0 for most of the game, the Bucs came alive in the final minute of regulation with the net empty. Curtis Freeman got Nanaimo on the board before Nate Barclay buried the equalizer moments later, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and forcing overtime.
Nanaimo pushed hard all night, outshooting Victoria 62-26 in a dominant offensive effort. Dylan Lazaroff played a key role with two assists, earning third star honours, while Aaron Pichette was solid between the pipes with 28 saves.
Despite the late heroics and relentless pressure, the Bucs came up just short in overtime.
