Alan Logue, a young athlete who was impacted significantly by the Nanaimo and Saanich hockey communities.

As the Nanaimo Buccaneers prepare to host the Saanich Braves, we take a moment to honour the memory of Alan Logue, a hard-working young player who left a pleasant and dignified mark on the Vancouver Island hockey community.

In the 2006-2007 season, Alan joined the Nanaimo Clippers from the Saanich Braves as an affiliate player under the guidance of Coach Bill Bestwick, who is now the general manager of the Buccaneers. That season, the Clippers went on to win a championship while Logue (17) played a part by bolstering the Clippers’ taxi squad of young, promising players. Though his local junior career was only one year, his time in Nanaimo and Saanich left a lasting impact on those who knew him. He returned to his home province of Saskatchewan after being acquired by the Notre Dame Hounds Junior A program, but continued to speak fondly of his year in the Nanaimo and Saanich hockey communities.

A gifted student, Alan’s journey took him to the University of Saskatchewan, where he excelled in the Faculty of Engineering. Tragically, his life was cut short in 2012 when he passed away after a courageous battle with a difficult illness.

As the teams prepare to take to the ice, we remind you of Alan’s passion, dedication, and love for the game. We honour his memory and the impact he had on those around him. We also remember his courageous battle for his health and life. To Alan’s family, friends, and all those who knew him, we offer our continued respect and condolences.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on Alan’s legacy and the memories he left behind. His love for hockey and his determination inspire us all. He would be 35 today. Rest in peace, Alan Logue. Your memory lives on!
