BUCCANEERS WELL-REPRESENTED AT 2026 VIJHL ALL-STAR & PROSPECTS EVENT

The Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League has announced its rosters for the 2026 All-Star & Prospects Showcase taking place January 16th & 17th in Spruce Grove, Alberta, and the Nanaimo Buccaneers will be strongly represented. Six Bucs have earned invitations, recognizing the team’s growth, depth, and rising talent across the North Division.

Nanaimo’s group features a mix of veteran leadership and emerging stars (see below). The event—held in conjunction with the BCHL—will also include a league-wide skills competition featuring fastest skater, hardest shot, and more.

PLAYER REPRESENTATION

Goalie – Aaron Pichette – Pichette’s steady, veteran presence between the pipes has been a backbone for the Buccaneers all season. His selection for the North Division All-Star team recognizes not just elite numbers, but consistency, poise, and several game-stealing performances—most recently a 40-save shutout.

Forward – Madden CruickshankThe dynamic rookie forward has impressed league-wide with his speed, skill, and clutch scoring touch. Cruickshank has been tapped for double duty, skating in both the All-Star and Prospects matchups.

Forward – Jaxin Karst – One of Nanaimo’s most reliable and hard-working forwards, Karst has been a steady offensive contributor and a tough matchup for opponents all season. His blend of speed, tenacity, and finishing touch earns him a well-deserved All-Star nod.

Defence – Nate Barclay – A cornerstone of Nanaimo’s blue line, Barclay’s blend of physical play, calm puck movement, and leadership earns him well-deserved All-Star status. Barclay will also compete in the Prospects Game, making him one of only seven North Division players chosen for both rosters.

Defence – Ethan Nordli Nordli is another dual-threat selection, appearing on both the All-Star and Prospects rosters for the North. His strong gap control, skating ability, and breakout reliability have made him a key part of Nanaimo’s defensive identity.

Defence – Boston Cripps Since joining the Bucs, Cripps has added size, stability, and a right-shot presence the coaching staff has valued highly. His calm defensive game and improving offensive instincts have earned him a spot on the Prospects’ blue line.

COACHING REPRESENTATION

In addition to player selections, the North Division All-Stars will be guided by Head Coach Garrett Dunlop of Oceanside, with Nanaimo assistant coach Tyler Gow serving behind the bench—a strong recognition of the Buccaneers’ improving program.

A STRONG SHOWING FOR A RISING TEAM

With six total player selections (three appearing in both games) and Tyler Gow as assistant coach, the Buccaneers will travel to Spruce Grove as one of the North Division’s most represented clubs. Their presence highlights the team’s development under the current staff and showcases a blend of veteran reliability and emerging talent shaping the future of the organization.
