The Nanaimo Buccaneers are officially North Division Champions after grinding out a hard-fought 3β2 overtime victory in Saanich Friday night.
Head Coach Tyler Gow described the win as a βhard-fought, greasy road winβ β exactly the type of effort needed this time of year.
At 9:25 of overtime, Tristen Bailey buried his second goal of the night off a feed from rookie Rhys Wilcox to seal the division-clinching victory. The Bucs bench erupted, swarming goaltender Carter Puska, who was stellar between the pipes and came up with key saves throughout the night.
With the win, Nanaimo secures top spot in the North and continues to build momentum heading into the playoffs.
Next up, the Bucs return home for a Monday Holiday Matinee at the NIC against the Comox Valley Glacier Kings. Puck drop is set for 12:30 PM.
Go Bucs! ππ€
