Nanaimo Buccaneers Fall to Peninsula Panthers

The Nanaimo Buccaneers’ undefeated streak came to an end Thursday night as they fell 2-0 to the Peninsula Panthers at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. Despite a strong team effort, the Buccaneers were unable to capitalize on scoring chances and were ultimately outshot 42-27.

The game was a closely contested one, with both teams showing off high-end skills. Peninsula’s Luke Christensen opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season in the first period, assisted by Brendan Williams and Alex Sajan. The Panthers never looked back. Meanwhile, Nanaimo’s Aaron Pichette made 40 saves on 41 shots.

Pichette’s goalie coach Marcus Beesley was thrilled with his effort: “Aaron was outstanding, making many timely saves. He played mature, was on his game and demonstrated excellent rebound control.”

In the third period, Kalan Dickie added an empty-net insurance goal for Peninsula, sealing the win for the Panthers.

The loss drops Nanaimo to 4-1 on the season, while Peninsula improves to 6-0.
