The Nanaimo Buccaneers pulled out a dramatic overtime win Sunday night in Port Alberni, with former Bomber and Bucs captain Kai Verbrugge (5th) playing the hero.
Just over three minutes into the extra frame, Verbrugge buried the game-winner on the Bucs’ seventh shot of overtime, sending the bench onto the ice in celebration.
Nanaimo looked in control late, holding a 3–1 lead in the third period, but Port Alberni battled back. The Bombers tied the game on their second power-play opportunity at the 18:09 mark, forcing overtime.
The Bucs regrouped, stayed patient, and were rewarded with the decisive goal to seal the road victory.
Next up: Nanaimo returns home to host the Kerry Park Islanders in their final home game before the Christmas break on Thursday, December 18th. Puck drops @ 7:15 PM at the NIC. Go BUCS! 🏴☠️
