The Nanaimo Buccaneers battled back for a thrilling 5–4 OT victory Sunday night at the Nanaimo Ice Centre, powered by a dominant performance from first star Nate Barclay, who recorded a hat trick, including the third-period equalizer and the winner at 1:55 of overtime.
Nanaimo (32-12-2, first in the North Division) jumped out to a 3–2 lead after the opening frame, with additional goals coming from Zach Spafford and Conall Hill. After falling behind 4–3 through two periods, the Bucs clawed their way back, forcing extra time and finishing the job in style.
Goaltender Aaron Pichette turned aside 15 shots for the win, while Madden Cruickshank earned third-star honours with a pair of key assists.
A gutsy comeback, an overtime finish, and another statement win as the Bucs continue to roll.
