The Nanaimo Buccaneers hit the road Friday night and skated away with a dominant 7–0 shutout victory over the Kerry Park Islanders.
Veteran goaltender Aaron Pichette was unbeatable between the pipes, turning aside every shot to earn his first shutout as a Buccaneer.
Offensively, the Bucs were firing on all cylinders. Nate Barclay opened the scoring early in the first period, recording his 4th goal of the season, followed by Porter Williamson, who found the back of the net twice, also bringing his total to four on the year. Jaxin Karst and Koen Gauthier each tallied their 8th goals of the season, while Rhys Wilcox netted his 4th, and Casey Rutland added his 2nd to round out the scoring in a balanced, team-wide performance.
With the win, the Buccaneers remain atop the North Division, continuing to prove they’re a force to be reckoned with in the VIJHL.
Next up, the Bucs return home for a Thursday night matchup against their up-Island rivals, the Comox Valley Glacier Kings, 7:15pm at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
