Bucs Take 3-2 Series Lead with Huge Home Win

The Nanaimo Buccaneers defended home ice in a big way Friday night, skating to a 4-3 win over the Comox Valley Glacier Kings at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

Nate Barclay led the charge with a four-point performance, while Dylan Lazaroff added three points, including a pair of goals, as the Bucs grabbed a 3-2 lead in the North Division final series.

Nanaimo came out flying, with Barclay opening the scoring just 25 seconds into the game. Lazaroff added another before the end of the first period to give the Buccaneers a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission. He struck again in the second to restore Nanaimo’s two-goal cushion, and Curtis Freeman added what proved to be the game-winner in the third.

Aaron Pichette was solid between the pipes once again, turning aside 31 shots to help secure the victory.

With the win, the Bucs now sit one game away from advancing to the 2025-2026 VIJHL Finals, with game six set for tonight in Comox Valley. Puck drop is 6:30 PM.
