The Nanaimo Buccaneers battled hard Thursday night at the Nanaimo Ice Centre, picking up a point in a tight 4–3 overtime finish against the visiting Westshore Wolves.
Nanaimo (28-10-2, 58 points) came out flying, lighting up the scoreboard just 1:42 into the game. First star Nate Barclay led the charge with two goals, while newly-acquired forward Kane Law added another to build an early 2–0 advantage. The Bucs carried leads of 2–1 after one and 3–2 after forty minutes, pushing the pace throughout.
Second star Dylan Konschuh continued his strong two-way play, collecting two assists, and goaltender Aaron Pichette turned aside 23 shots to keep Nanaimo within reach.
Despite controlling stretches of the game and earning a hard-fought point, Nanaimo saw the extra frame slip away in overtime.
The Buccaneers remain firmly atop the VIJHL North Division as they continue their push toward playoffs. The Buccs are back at it tonight, looking to regroup and bounce back as they take on the Peninsula Panthers at the Panorama Recreation Centre, with puck drop set for 7:30pm.
