The Nanaimo Buccaneers opened their playoff series in dominant fashion, shutting out the Campbell River Storm 3–0 in Game One at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.
Veteran goaltender Aaron Pichette was unbeatable, turning aside every shot he faced to earn the shutout. Boston McDonald opened the scoring and delivered the eventual game-winner early on.
Captain Kai Verbrugge added a massive short-handed marker to extend the lead and swing momentum firmly in Nanaimo’s favour, while rookie Rhys Wilcox sealed the victory with the team’s third goal of the night.
Game Two goes tonight in Campbell River, before the series shifts back to the NIC for Game Three on Thursday, March 5th — puck drops at 7:05pm.
GO BUCS!
